If Music be the Food of Love

I have combined my musical talents with those of my thespian past to devise a one man show entitled 'If Music be the Food of Love'. Over the course of an hour or so I present a mixture of words and tunes which show how closely love and music are interwined. The stringed instruments I play are of designs that in some cases date back hundreds of years, while the music and verse span several centuries and my costume is from the reign of King Charles the First.

As well as passages from Shakespeare's works (including Twelfth Night and Midsummer Night's Dream), I quote from the poetry of the likes of Blake, Keats, Morris and Yeats, and read passages of prose by Thomas Hardy and Jane Austen. My performance often includes a song or two, and self-penned works may be featured.

I can tailor my presentation to suit audiences large and small, but to retain the intimacy of the performance and avoid the use of amplification, which I feel isn't in keeping with the material, numbers not exceeding 30 or so are best. Past performances have been for The University of the Third Age, Taunton Retired Teachers Group and The Frank Bond Centre. In 2008 I have been booked to play for Bishops Hull WI.
